About Dr. Caramelli

Received his MD at the University of São Paulo – USP (1987), with a medical residency in Neurology at the Hospital das Clínicas of the same institution (1988-1991). He was a CNPq scholarship holder (sandwich doctorate modality) from 1992 to 1994 at the University of Montréal, Canada. In 1997 he completed his PhD in Medicine (Neurology) at the Faculty of Medicine of USP. He is currently a full professor of Neurology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais – UFMG.

Dr. Caramelli coordinated the Medical Residency program in Neurology at Hospital das Clínicas da UFMG from 2008 to 2012 and the Neurology Service from 2012 to 2018. He served as a member of the Working Group on Neurocognitive Disorders of the World Health Organization (WHO) to review the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) between 2011 and 2017, acting as coordinator of the group from 2014 to 2017. He currently represents Brazil at the G-8 World Dementia Council. Dr. Caramelli is a CNPq Research Productivity Fellow and part of the team of consultants at CAPES, CNPq, and FAPESP. He the is Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria. Associate editor of the journals American Journal of Neurodegenerative Disease, eNeurologicalSci, and Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, he is also a member of the editorial board of the journals Dementia & Neuropsychologia and European Journal of Neurology.
